Recipe: Bigadeiro Tradicional
Items needed:
Small stovetop pot
baking tray or large flat plate
small flat plate
parchment paper
mini foil dessert liners (optional)
Ingredients:
2 tbsp butter
14oz can condensed milk
3-4 tbsp cocoa powder
chocolate sprinkles (to coat)
Place small pot over low heat on stove. Add 1 tablespoon butter and stir to melt. Set other tbsp butter aside. Once butter is melted, add condensed milk to pot and stir. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons cocoa powder (3 tbsp for milk chocolate flavor, 4 tbsp for a dark chocolate flavor).
Stir consistently until mixture begins to boil. Mixture is done and at the right consistency when you can see the bottom of the pot for a moment when you scrape the mixture away.
Place a sheet of parchment paper over baking tray or plate and spoon mixture onto the lined tray. Let cool 10-15 minutes. (optional: place in the freezer for 10 minutes to help with cooling!)
While mixture is cooling, pour sprinkles onto small flat plate.
With clean hand, spoon a small portion of the butter you set aside into the palm of your hand. Pick up a spoonful of mixture and begin to roll between hands to create a ball. Once shaped, roll gently to coat in sprinkles.
Place on a plate or in foil liner. Serve Immediately or store and eat within 3 days.
